I'm Not as Old as You Think!

As the years go by, I've grown used to accepting the passing of time. Although I try not to think about how many birthdays I've actually had, it's hard to ignore all of the reminders around you that time is continually moving forward.

A few weeks ago our family got together for dinner and celebrated the March birthdays. Even Paul and Tiffany Rimington joined us for the evening. When I went to get the cake, Michael and Kevin had gotten creative and loaded it with every birthday candle they could find in an effort to represent all of the birthdays (Me, Justin, Paul, Kimberly & Emma). There were actually only 10 candles shy of our combined ages on that cake. (You do the math!) Ken lighted the candles with a blow torch and everyone sang Happy Birthday! There was a pretty good layer of candle wax on the cake by the time the candles were out! I wish we'd gotten a picture because it was really pretty funny. :-)

This week, though, I've had cause to waver between laughter and depression. Just a few days ago Ken and I were visiting with the many friends and family who came to show their love and respect for Aunt Bessie (age 89). After the THIRD person asked me if I was her SISTER, I told Ken that when the funeral was over, I needed anti-depressants and some hair dye!

I know what you mean. When I was my sister's escort for her temple marriage a few years ago I was asked if I was her mother. Good grief! I felt 100 years old.

Hi Mom! Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry. It's literally impossible for me to get a birthday card out on time.
I reminded Mike to call you, but the day got too crazy and then before we knew it, it was TOO late to call.

The birthday cake graphic you posted was a good representation. There's bound to be a lot of candles when you combine all those birthdays.

Hi Janell,
Are you Bessie's sister? All kidding aside. You are a wonderful sister and I'm glad you're mine. Wait until you're turning 65 and all the companies call and send you info on Medicare. Have a great day!
Love,
Linda

I would have loved to see that cake!
