Since Marian put in a post with a picture of her foot, I decided to put in one with mine! :-)This may seem like an odd picture for a Sunday thought, but believe me, it is a perfect object lesson. I find myself in this horrible contraption because of a very stupid accident. Kevin and I were returning from the movie the other day and stopped to get gas for the car. I was standing by the pump and decided to throw away my trash. To do so I turned to step OVER the gas hose that was filling my car. I distinctly heard the words "don't step over the hose - it's not safe" but unfortunately, I didn't listen to that still, small voice and tried to step over the hose anyway. My left foot caught the hose and down I went. I banged up my right wrist, knee and leg, which caught my weight when I hit the ground, but the worst is my left foot which caught and twisted in the hose. STUPID!
Kevin got me home and since I couldn't put any weight on my left foot, Ken took me in for x-rays. Fortunately, it wasn't broken but the sprain is pretty bad. I'm definitely multi-colored and the swelling makes my foot and ankle about twice its normal size. Even with the boot and my cane, taking even a few steps is extremely painful. (sigh) The doctor said this could take a very long time to heal which is pretty depressing.
The worst part is that I was prompted to NOT step over the hose but ignored the warning. I've been thinking quite a bit about that since it happened. I know we are promised in the scriptures that we will receive help for even the smallest events in our lives. We just need to strive to draw closer to our Savior and heed those spiritual promptings when they come! This is certainly something I am determined to improve in my life!
In the meantime, I'm to have my foot elevated so its the recliner for me. I'm surrounded by books, the remote and a water bottle. I'm tired of it already. Believe me, sitting around is highly overrated!

MOM!!!!!!! I can't believe it!!! Who would have thought a stationary object like a gas hose could inflict so much pain.
I'm so sorry this happened. I'm glad Kevin was there to help you. And I hope you are feeling better soon.
Sometimes it is so hard to determine the difference between our own thoughts and the still small voice. I'm glad nothing is broken and hope your recovery is quick!
Janell,
You've been practicing to not fall. Were you trying out your learning to see if it worked? What a hard way to learn. Really, I'm sorry it happened! I hope you heal quickly.
Can we help you?
Linda
WHAT!!???!!! I saw you guys like minutes before this must have happened because you were fine when you stopped at my house!! (or at least you hid your pain very, very well)
I am soooo terribly sorry to hear about your crazy incident. Hang in there!! Try to think positive thoughts. At least now you can reminisce over all those wonderful Star Trek movie images while basking in the lapse of luxury in your recliner (just keep telling yourself that anyway).
Are you lacking for attention or something? Just kidding. I am truly sorry and you are right, sitting around doing nothing is only fun for about a day.
We'll just pray that it heals faster than anticipated.
When you asked me for suggestions on how to get more attention I said to buy a medical boot and wear it around. I didn't think you'd actually hurt yourself to get the insurance to pay for the boot. :-)
Kidding aside, I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I can't believe this. At least when mom tripped over the blade of grass, she didn't have to wear a boot.
