Return Pays Off :-)

This last week I found myself in Logan for an appointment and as long as I was there, I planned to do a long list of errands at the same time. On my list was a return at The Cleaning Center, a cleaning supplies store started by Don Aslett. He ran a cleaning business at one time and eventually opened a chain of stores selling cleaning products.

Now, I hate making a return. I always feel self-conscious and find myself giving a detailed explanation to the poor clerk as to why my return was necessary. Approaching the store, I debated just keeping the squeegee I’d bought and accept the $8.00 cost as a personal financial loss, but at the last minute I told myself to quit being such a coward and make the return!

When I walked in, the store was empty except for a couple standing off to the side that I didn’t really notice. I made my return, trying very hard to refrain from giving my life story to the clerk as explanation. :-) When I turned to leave, the man off to the side walked up, made a few light comments and then told me he wanted to give me a book. To my surprise, I was speaking to Don Aslett himself. We chatted for a minute and I left with a signed book on organizing your home or work office. Since I’ve read and liked several of his books, I was thrilled. I guess conquering my cowardice paid off! Of course, now I have no excuse for not getting those papers of mine organized! :-)

Ooohhh..an organizing book :) I'm going to have to borrow it from you one of these days so that maybe our desk can get organized too :)

I wonder if it would apply to garages or sheds?

That is so funny! I had the same thing happen to me once when I was in his Pocatello store. He gave me the "man" book that tell them to get up and start cleaning. He was actually Mark's scout leader for the national scout jamboree so we visited for a few minutes. Great guy and very self made!
